Abigail MacDonald, 20, was raised in St. Andrews, Antigonish County and grew up surrounded by Gaelic music and culture. Her father is a respected fiddler from a long line of musicians and tradition bearers. He passed on this talent to Abigail, who is also a Gaelic singer, piano player, highland and step dancer. Over the years, Abigail has been part of many community-based Gaelic programs such as Na Gaisgich Òga, Féis Cape Breton, and most recently Daltachas, where she was mentored by her cousin Goiridh Dòmhnullach, who is a respected Gaelic singer, bàrd (poet) and tradition bearer. During the Summer months, Abigail is employed at the Gaelic College in St. Ann’s where she provides instruction for students and shares her knowledge on Gaelic culture and history with visitors. Abigail is a regular musician at dances and ceilidhs throughout the province and is an annual performer in the KitchenFest music festival. She is a third year Health Science student at St.Francis Xavier University.
